ARCOMadrid, 19-23 February

ARCOMadrid opens 19 February and brings together the best art from artists working in Spain and internationally. The fair is for contemporary art professionals, art-lovers and the general public, with initiatives to suit their different interests. The first two days are devoted to collectors, curators, and directors of museums, biennials and art centres, when the fair is the best meeting point and space for sharing projects.

Every year ARCOMadrid host a stunning General Programme featuring numerous galleries from across the globe. One exhibitor will be London gallery Carroll/Fletcher who will manage a group stall of new and recent works by Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, Manfred Mohr, Christine Sun Kim, John Wood and Paul Harrison, Karmelo Bermejo, James Clar and Mishka Henner. Photographer Henner was awarded the ICP Infinity Award for Art in 2013 and was shortlisted for the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize in the same year. He was also a signature artist in From Here On (2011), a group show representing the new age of photography at Les Rencontres d’Arles in France.

Steve Turner Contemporary, Los Angeles, will present works by Mexico City-based artist Pablo Rasgado in the Solo Projects Focus Latin America section. Rasgado will present four corner works that each consist of a broken pane of glass that has been repaired with both photographic filters and adhesive tape together with a mirror and a fluorescent light. When presented in the darkness of the booth at ARCO, the filters and tape produce prismatic light effects.

Alexander Levy from Berlin will exhibit pieces from Ekaterina Burlyga, Felix Kiessling and Vicky Ulse. Felix Kiessling currently lives and works in Berlin, Germany, and will represent the country in Madrid this February. Since October 2008 Kiessling has been a student at the Universität der Künste Berlin (UDK) and has been a participant in Olafur Eliasson’s Institut für Raumexperimente since 2009. He works with photography and installation to create provoking works.

In addition to the General Programme there will be several new additions to ARCOMadrid for 2o14. This year the fair shines a light on Scandinavian art with #FocusFinland. The specially designated pavilion will host 13 Finnish galleries and works by the artist Heta Kuchka as well as information about activities at the Kiasma Museum in Helsinki. Another special feature for 2014 is the Inside Collecting: Design, Management, Finance course. Co-ordinated by Skate´s Art Market Research in partnership with Art Media Agency and The Art Newspaper, the project will analyse collection design and creation, both from the financial and curatorship side as well as management and administration from the viewpoint of private collectors, corporations and museums.
