Born and based in the Midwest, Michael McCluskey explores truth in overlooked places and uncovers hidden layers in the mundane. His photos are a natural extension of an interest in film and music – deeply cinematic scenes dripping with tension and a Crewdson-esque fantasia.
The images take hold of the night through evocative uses of lighting. Neon signs, flood lamps and glassy windows are illuminated against the starry outdoors.
Pools, open deserts and closed driveways reflect an overbearing sense of stillness and resolute calm that is at once captivating, alluring and threatening.
