Photo Macau: New Terrains

In advance of their first edition, which will take place at the end of March, Photo Macau is hosting a curated agenda of exhibitions, installations and conferences that introduce global photography and digital art to the Greater Bay region, one of Asia’s fastest growing economies along the Pearl River Delta. The preview programme presents local, regional and international galleries and institutions and features world renowned photographers and new media artists, such as Mike Steiner, Horst P and Jeffrey Shaw.

“The event will present an insight into the world of photography and digital art for audiences in Macau, Hong Kong and the wider region,” says Executive Director Cecilia Ho. “As we continue to work towards cultivating the right gallerists, participants and experts for the first edition, we will showcase an introduction of the fair’s vision that we are continuing to develop from 24-26 March  at the Venetian Hotel in Macau. We look forward to welcoming art, photography and cultural enthusiasts during this time where works by galleries will be supported by three fascinating exhibitions and an international symposium made up of key influencers in the field.”

Shown recently at Museum Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin, Mike Steiner’s rarely seen video works of Marina Abramović and Ulay’s iconic performances from the 1970s are on display alongside other pieces, such as recordings of pieces by Allan Kaprow, Joseph Beuys, Valie Export and Laurie Anderson that took place at the Studio-Galerie, the infamous meeting point for international avant-garde video and performance artists that opened in Berlin in 1976. Also included are over 60 photographic prints by one of the greatest photographers of the 20th century, the German born Horst P. Displaying a comprehensive range of styles and subjects, from fashion to still life and portrait, Horst’s images have become some of the most iconic of the genre and include shots of Andy Warhol, Salvador Dali, Jackie O and Yves Saint Laurent.
