Melissa Meachen is an illustrator from North Yorkshire. Their practice revolves around the traditional method of printmaking, whilst asking questions about superstition. Many people don’t consider themselves superstitious, and yet they compulsively search for a piece of wooden furniture to touch in order to avoid bad luck. Folklore is part of our collective history, enduring for thousands for years and becoming fully integrated into contemporary culture. Through research and printmaking, Meachen brings unique folk beliefs to life – ones that have often been forgotten as well as those that are fully integrated into our lives.
