Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize 2011

 

Talking Images
As one of the UK’s most engaging photography prizes, this year’s Taylor Wessing includes thought-provoking and captivating works. Jooney Woodward won this prize for her portrait, Harriet and Gentleman Jack. The portrait of 13-year-old Harriet Power was taken in the guinea pig judging area at the Royal Welsh Show. This year’s exhibition showcases 60 photographers. The competition was judged anonymously from original prints by: Monica Allende (Picture Editor, Sunday Times Magazine); Michael Bracewell (writer and novelist); Venetia Dearden (photographer); Sandy Nairne (Director, National Portrait Gallery) and Terence Pepper (Curator of Photographs, National Portrait Gallery). The following images are a selection from the exhibition and provide insight into today’s emerging portrait photographers.
