Reality in Context

Reiner Riedler

Reality in Context
Reiner Riedler (b. 1968) is an Austrian photographer who explores definitions of reality through one of our favourite pastimes – the holiday. In his series, Fake Holidays, Riedler traverses the boundaries of place by examining reality within the context of the staged and created. In this simulacrum, a city beach in Paris or Berlin creates an atmosphere of being on holiday while indoor skiing plays host to a winter wonderland in Dubai. In these scenarios, for a brief moment you are released from your ordinary thoughts and constraints, however Riedler is playfully critiquing the choices we make in pursuit of having the experience we want by actively engaging in adventures that replace the real with the artificial. The following images are an excerpt from this series.
