Towing the Line

Hands grasp to washing lines. Fingertips graze a plane window, skimming clouds across the skyline. Italian photographer Maria Maglionico offers a correlation between the foreground and background of images.

Subjects blend with their surroundings, from painted concrete to lines of wallpaper. In doing so, the works offer intriguing visual semantics where main characters are defined and set by their location.

Maglionico notes: “I don’t try to tell a story, but to reproduce a sensation – a mood or impression. The subjects, though central, are erased from full view.”
