Timeless Narrative

Timeless Narrative

Gillian Hyland’s photographs are steeped in narrative. Frozen in time, the images enter into subjects’ memories, visualising isolated yet deeply human moments. Stylised staging, colour and lighting come together to create cinematic scenes that tap into psychological landscapes. A selection of evocative works is now on view in Moments in Time, A Reflection on Life’s Stories at After Nyne Gallery, London.

Each work points to wider, unfolding events, encouraging viewers to think beyond the frame. The artist explains: “For me, it’s not about creating a pretty picture, it’s the intention that lies beneath it that is truly worthwhile. I’m drawn to the thinking mind behind the face, the subjects’s eyes holding a story in their gaze.” Hyland’s tableaux capture the essence of individuals, laying the foundations for wider introspection and imaginative storytelling.

The exhibition runs until 30 March. Find out more here.

Hyland was longlisted for the Aesthetica Art Prize in 2018. The award is now open for entries.
