Ian Cumberland

Northern Irish visual artist Ian Cumberland is fascinated by Guy Debord’s concept of the “Society of the Spectacle” and its contemporary implications, where authentic life is replaced by constructed representations – particularly relevant to an age of social media. Paintings such as Distance evoke this concept through an unsettling sense of a heightened normalcy.
