Alinka Echeverria aims to counter the depiction of the African continent and its inhabitants as embodying “otherness”, through a process of collaboration with her subjects which demands the viewer see the individual behind the story. Anthem is from a 2011 series which following the build-up to independence in The Republic Of South Sudan.
