An exhibition entitled Roots by Harry Gruyaert at Gallery Fifty One, Antwerp, offers a striking synthesis of colour, form and light, bringing together fragments of the everyday through a unique, painterly approach to photography. Capturing the Beligian zeitgeist of the 1970s and 1980s – alongside documenting the US, Morocco and India – Gruyaert’s oeuvre celebrates a diversity of culture, highlighting the beauty in the mundane and the atmosphere of an era.The show collates black and white photographs alongside colour series, showcasing the practitioner’s range whilst providing new perspectives on locations around the world.
