In 2018, there are over 4 billion internet users worldwide. Revealing the hidden network behind our unprecedented connectivity is the winner of Artangel’s first open call, Red Lines by Evan Roth.

The infrared video installation reflects on the digital age, featuring coastal landscapes where internet cables emerge from the sea. Remote and often hidden, these locations – spanning South Africa, Argentina and more – are eerie and strikingly untouched by human activity.

The work is available to view for audiences anywhere in the world – streaming on smartphones, laptops and TV screens. Red Lines is also now on view in seven UK galleries, including Open Data Institute, London. Find out more here.
