Exploring Suburbia

Exploring Suburbia

Thomas Jordan is an American photographer, living and working in Illinois. The artist finds inspiration in the Northwest Chicago Suburbs, looking for moments of clarity amongst suburban landscapes. Jordan finds a pathway to exploring past emotions through present-day detail.

In his latest series, The Fixed Path, he explores the art of long exposure photography, incorporating dream-like atmospheres based on actual suppressed ideas. Interpreting the human condition and communicating feelings of love, anxiety and fear, the images interpret abstraction through tangible, cinematic compositions.

Jordan’s images are at once dark and inviting, with illuminated windows and artificial street lights honing in on the anonymity and universality of domesticated, metropolitan life.
