In an increasingly urbanised and digital world, virtual reality experience We live in an Ocean of Air by Marshmallow Laser Feast offers a moment of reflection, encouraging audiences to consider their relationship to the natural world. Opening at Saatchi Gallery, London, the piece brings to life the fundamental exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide by seamlessly blending art, science and technology.

Entering a digital forest, viewers are invited to interact with an entire ecosystem around a giant sequoia tree – the largest living individual organism on the planet. The piece emphasises a shared dependence and responsibility through deeply immersive technology, incorporating breath sensors, heart rate monitors, binaural sound, scent dispersal systems and wind machines to expand the boundaries of design.
