Dallas Biennial

For the Dallas Biennial 2014 (DB14) over 50 national and international artists come together to exhibit work in multiple venues across Dallas. Running for four months until 31 May, DB14 fills Texas with exhibitions, performances and lectures. Making the event accessible to everyone, work is displayed in non-profit spaces, galleries, warehouses, artist-run spaces, corporate offices, on a billboard and in a magazine.

Launched on 1 February, the Biennial pairs Dallas-based and national artists such as Stephen Lapthisophon, Brad Tucker, Marjorie Schwarz, Michael Corris, Penelope Umbrico and Petra Cortright with influential predecessors such as Martha Rosler, Adrian Piper, Joseph Grigely, Thomas Lawson and Conrad Atkinson. There will also be retrospectives by Thomas Lawson and Ludwig Schwarz, a billboard project by Math Bass, an endurance performance by Nancy Popp, ceramics by Josh Smith, photomontages by Martha Rosler and music compositions by Joseph Grigley.

During March, work by Chicago artist Cauleen Smith will make up a solo exhibition in the Square Gallery at The McKinney Avenue Contemporary. In addition Richard Roth, Geraldine Gluibislavich and Bradly Brown will display a range of pieces at Richland College; and local stalwart Ludwig Schwarz pulls together his first retrospective at Oliver Francis Gallery.

The event concludes at the Power Station, a large warehouse in West Dallas in April and May. Work by Konrad Smolenski, José Lerma, Gary Cannone, Karin Lehmann, Shaun Leonardo, Mark Booth, and Alterazioni Video will be displayed with Dallas favorites Margaret Meehan, Darryl Lauster, Jeff Gibbons, Francisco Moreno and Ryder Richards, besides many more.
