Constructed Symbols

Constructed Symbols

Anja Niemi’s (b. 1976) series She Could Have Been A Cowboy explores notions of the self through staged compositions, returning to symbols drawn from the myth-making of wild west movies.

The collection questions notions of gender and conformity, and forms part of an ongoing investigation into the self and its limits.

The works are on view at The Ravestijn Gallery, Amsterdam, until 27 October. Find out more here.
