Composed Ambience

Composed Ambience

This comprehensive exhibition of Düsseldorf-based photographer Axel Hütte (b.1951) reflects his interest in the perception of the picture, of representation and reality. Hütte’s imagery, taken on excursions to various continents, surprises viewers with pictorial structures that place his work beyond the documentary. With water reflections, the dark of the night, but also with vertical or horizontal elements of architecture, he composes atmospheric worlds. His photographs are characterised by a profound stillness, and by an overwhelming sense of loneliness. The show brings together 70 large-scale day and night images.

Axel Hütte, Night and Day, until 14 January, Museum Kunstpalast, Düsseldorf.
