Chiswick Auctions 20th Century Contemporary Art and Design Sale, 1 December

Chiswick Auctions, based in West London, was established over 20 years ago and has 14 specialist departments, as well as hosting weekly general sales. Successfully selling antiques, it also auctions a variety of modern items and designer goods. Chiswick Auctions is hosting a spectacular 20th Century and Contemporary Art & Design sale on 1 December. The sale covers the spectrum of the best of 20th Century art and design, with strong offerings from the Scottish Contemporary Art,  Glass, Post War Art, Urban Art and the African Art categories. The superb collection will also represent wonderful examples of mid-century furniture from top names across Danish and English furniture design.

With strong representation from leading Scottish contemporary artists, the sale will feature over 50 lots of original paintings. This part of the sale is the first fundraising auction for the Essential School of Painting (ESOP) and features works from an impressive line-up of contributing and donating artists including Barbara Rae CBE RA, Norman Ackroyd RA,  Sandy Moffat OBE RSA and John Bellany RA amongst other prominent artists. Proceeds of the auction will go towards the upkeep of the school and the development of its forthcoming programme. The Essential School of Painting (The ESOP) is an alternative art school in East London, which specialises in drawing and painting classes taught by leading artists such as Ken Currie, Adrian Wiszniewski and Gwen Hardie. At a time when painting and to some extent drawing have been marginalised in mainstream art schools, the ESOP offers positive, intellectually rigorous courses with the intention of advancing painting in the 21st century.
