Aesthetica Art Prize Exhibition Talk: Navigating the Contemporary Art Exhibition

The fourth talk in the series at the Aesthetics Art Prize Exhibition is Navigating the Contemporary Art Exhibition with Dr Sam Lackey, Curator at The Hepworth Wakefield. Lackey will lead an engaging tour around this year’s Art Prize selection, identifying the various themes and techniques utilised in the 2016 shortlisted works.

The exhibition features 10 shortlisted artists, whose work spans a range of media from installation, video, sculpture, digital art and photography. The works draw upon a range of themes, questioning the relationship between the individual and the landscape, technological advancements and the value we place on objects and people. Lackey will highlight the various modes of representation and interpretation used in the show.

With a further 90 longlisted pieces displayed on monitors, the 2016 edition is the award’s largest exhibition to date and welcomes practitioners from Austria, Canada, Germany, Israel, Japan, Mexico, Poland, South Africa, the UK and the USA. Ranging from site-specific installations to new experiments with light and digital technologies, the showcase is an inspiring example of the calibre of works submitted to the Prize.

Aesthetica Art Prize Exhibition, Navigating the Contemporary Art Exhibition with Dr Sam Lackey, Thursday 5 May 12:30 – approximately 13:00. No booking required.
