Aesthetica Art Prize Call for Entries Countdown: Artist Marie Brenneis

In the countdown to the Aesthetica Art Prize call for submissions deadline on 31 August 2014, we look in focus at artists from the latest award. Conceptual artist Marie Brenneis was featured in the Video, Installation & Performance category with Deliberate Digression an installation that incorporates wearable sculptures exploring themes of fantasy and conformity.

Brenneis is interested in rules that society forces upon us, working in an interdisciplinary way with installation, 3D painting and found objects to subvert hierarchy and social conventions. Her sets present mini utopias that break away from reality. Her work has been exhibited in theatre, scenography, costume, sculpture and photography and fine art shows.

Brenneis also creates public sculpture and is one half of The DollyOlli Collective. Marie and DollyOlli’s work has been performed, presented and exhibited on public buildings on the canals around Hackney Wick, London; Ravensbourne University; The National Gallery, London; Prague Quadrennial, Prague; The International Performance Festival (PAD), Mainz, Germany and Space 65 Gallery, London, among many others.

Working at the intersection of fine art, fashion, performance and photography, Brenneis continues to develop her practice in creating scenographic pieces. Her latest success was being awarded £150 open studio bursary for the Hackney Wicked Art Festival, one of London’s biggest art festivals, which takes place from 1 – 3 August.
