Aesthetica Art Prize Exhibition
York St Mary’s
Meet at 5.30pm
Organised by Aesthetica Magazine, in partnership with York Museums Trust, the Art Prize is a platform for emerging contemporary artists from across the world to bring their work to a wider audience. Taking place in the exceptional setting of York St Mary’s – York Art Gallery’s contemporary art space, the exhibition reframes the relationship between the historic and the contemporary by uniting the international rising stars of the art world in a major group show.

York St Mary’s is a beautiful medieval church, which opened as a contemporary visual art venue in 2004. The church itself could date back as far as 1020 with the bulk of the building dating to the early 13th century, with 14th and 15th century modifications and alterations.

Naturally Inclined: Jennifer Tetlow, Richard & Janet Burdon and Louise Dwyer (until 30 April)
White Room Gallery (Priestley’s at No.36, Bootham)
From 7pm
Jennifer Tetlow is a sculptor in stone who feels a close bond and deep fascination for her material. She works by direct carving, creating sculpture with simple, clean lines and smooth surfaces. These elegant, nature inspired pieces seem to be simultaneously archaic and modern.

Richard and Janet Burdon’s work is a compilation of similar but subtlety different styles of photography. A mixture of both colour and monochrome landscapes, plus a selection of creative images of the natural world express each photographer’s artistic impression of their subject.

Louise Dwyer creates bespoke and unique handmade jewellery, inviting customers to incorporate their design and individual ideas into each piece. The exhibition is supported by Ryedale Artworks; all the artists are part of the group.
