Tim Walker

Telling Tales

Well known for his abstract portraits of everyone from Vivienne Westwood to Tilda Swinton, Tim Walker (b. 1970) is one of the most exciting photographers working today. Story Teller, a large-scale overview of his iconic works, opens this October at Somerset House, London, and features some of his most recent images. Shot in film and favouring pre-production over post-production, many of the works first found their home in the pages of British, French, American and Italian Vogue, Vanity Fair, W and The New Yorker. Now, exhibited on the walls of Somerset House, these photographs present a conceptual view of contemporary fashion. Alongside images of Karen Elson fighting with a crocodile, and a bread plane about to take flight, the props from the sets, including a giant doll and a spitfire plane, loom above the guests. Story Teller opens 18October and runs until 27 January 2013. The following images offer a glimpse into this major show.
