A World First

Artificial Intelligence has the potential to transform everything we do. From the workplace to around the home, emerging technology provides solutions to both daily tasks and large-scale operations, opening time and resources for further imaginative endeavour.

Applying this growing demand to the creative industries, leading telecommunications company Huawei has launched the world’s first photography competition co-judged by AI. Bringing together science and art, the new P20 Pro smartphone uses its capabilities to rate each entry, offering a new model for awards across the industry.

The competition – which takes place throughout July and August – comprises five challenges: After Dark (from 24 July), Deep in Detail (from 5 August), Moment in Time (from 12 August), Wide-Eyed World (from 29 August) and the current task A New Renaissance. Each test out the P20 Pro under varying conditions, demonstrating its ability to rate highly curated scenes, intricate compositions and spontaneous snapshots alike.

Now open for entries, A New Renaissance asks entrants to compose an image inspired by the influential period. From subject matter and props to lighting and formal structure, it offers photographers the opportunity to reinvent history through innovative technology.

Alongside analysing works for aesthetic and formal quality, the Huawei P20 Pro’s AI facility offers both emerging and established practitioners essential advice, assisting with every shot. This feature enables users, no matter how experienced, to captured visually striking images.

Alongside receiving a P20 Pro, each winner has the chance to travel to Florence for a Leica photography masterclass. Find out more here.
