Luminous Colour

Luminous Colour

Working with light installation, sculpture and public art, 2016 Aesthetica Art Prize finalist Liz West creates vivid environments that mix luminous colour and radiant light. Working across a variety of mediums, her works provoke a heightened sensory awareness in the viewer and have recently featured as part of 2018’s London Design Festival.

West is now featured in a new publication by Gingko Press. Lust for Light offers a visually-arresting overview of practitioners working with the elemental medium, highlighting the use of illumination in large-scale installations and gallery settings around the world. Featured alongside the likes of Yayoi Kusama, Barbara Kasten, Ivan Navarro and teamLab, the publication positions West at the cutting-edge of her craft.

Looking to the importance of the art form, the practitioner notes: “You cannot see colour without light. For me, the two mediums are intrinsically connected. I don’t just make work with artificial light, I also think about natural light as it is as equally important to us as we go about our day-to-day lives. I want to highlight natural phenomena such as light and colour through my work so people become more aware of their surroundings and of the experience in encountering these phenomena.”
