SohoCreate, 4-6 June, London

SohoCreate opens next week, 4-6 June, for its inaugural creative festival. With an outstanding line-up of guests, including Rob Ryan, Michael Craig-Martin and Yinka Shonibare, the event runs panel sessions with some industry experts. SohoCreate offers a rare opportunity to hear from the UK’s leading creatives in panels crossing a variety of genres. Audiences will also have the chance to be privy to a number of conversations between experts, such as world-renowned architect Sir Nicholas Grimshaw, Frieze Art Founder Matthew Slotover and celebrated artist Yinka Shonibare as they discuss how our imagination is what makes us human and how essential creativity is to our future.

There are a number of highlights, including, Arts Council England Chair Sir Peter Bazalgette in conversation with Young Vic Artistic Director David Lan on the challenges of maintaining a creative life. One of the world’s greatest ad men, Sir John Hegarty will be in conversation with the cinematographer whose lit everyone from Kate Winslet to Robert De Niro, Michael Seresin. An extraordinary opportunity to see two genuine greats in conversation.

In addition, theatre and dancing will be analysed as creative entrepreneuresse Sally Greene OBE, creative producer Farooq Chaudhry, and lead principle dancer and artistic director of the English National Ballet Tamara Rojo, will discuss the challenge of being simple. Theatre director Jeremy Herrin and actor Ben Miles, will consider their work together on the RSC’s Wolf Hall and Bringing Up The Bodies and explore how director and actor combine to build character.

Photographer Suki Dhanda, co-founder of Fuel Theatre Kate McGrath and musician Ms Dynamite will offer their insights on keeping creative quality prominent in the mass of detailed technical processes and skillsets. While, Simon Heath producer at World Productions of Line Of Duty, will be found in discussion with Emma Rice, Olivier Nominated theatre director at Kneehigh and Will Tuckett multi-award winning international choreographer and recent Olivier Award winner.

Another prominent photographer Nadav Kander will speak with Fitch CEO, Tim Greenhalgh and two time Ivor Novello winning songwriter/producer Sasha Skarbek, and Harriet Vine, one half of artist, jeweller, micro-manufacturer Tatty Devine will talk with artist, writer Rob Ryan.

There will also be appearances from singer songwriters Gary Kemp and Tim Arnold, Toyah Willcox, Lauren Laverne, Helen David and many more. SohoCreate offers a unique insight into the creative industry, bringing together established practitioners in various fields to ponder on their successes and the nature of creation in contemporary life.
