Robin Williamson

Trusting In The Rising Light
ECM

Scottish singer/songwriter Robin Williamson returns with his fourth album for ECM, adding to his solo recording The Seed-At-Zero and his group discs, Skirting the River Road and The Iron Stone. Williamson’s captivating compositions of sung poetry have in the past, transformed the words of Dylan Thomas, Walt Whitman, Walter Raleigh, Thomas Wyatt, William Blake and others. For Trusting In The Rising Light he focuses solely on his own poems.

Joined by outstanding viola player Mat Maneri and highly-skilled percussionist Ches Smith, Williamson uses his mesmerising lyrics to consider love, life and destiny. Title track Trusting In The Rising Light transports listeners to the seashore, hearing the rise and fall of the waves in the instrumental crescendos. The unity of Williamson’s lyrics with the jazz-infused accompaniment makes for an intensely emotive album. Maneri and Smith’s intuitive compositions respond organically to Williamson’s vocals, concluding in a beautiful album that engages both the mind and the soul. www.ecmrecords.com.
