Addressing the intersection of traditional craft with contemporary culture, American artist Stephen Wilson questions the categorisation of mediums that designates what is and is not considered as fine art.
This is strongly expressed through the implementation of embroidery and found-object assemblage, which is at the centre of his artistic process.
Placing techniques associated with the domestic and the “feminine” in coordination with those of modern art creation – 3D printing, laser cutting and digital renderings – Wilson emphasises the ironic contradictions of society.
The symbiosis between modern and traditional mediums is echoed in juxtaposed motifs of the natural and manmade; domestic and public; creation and destruction.
Wilson will present work at Aqua Art Miami (Booth #123), 6-9 December. For further information, click here.
