“She is not human, she is art.”
– as said by a little girl at the Naples Art Association, after viewing the Supernova Playroom series by Natalya Nova.
Natalya Nova is an award-winning artist, photographer and filmmaker. Originally from Orenburg, Russia, she has resided in New York since 2005.
In her latest project Supernova Playroom Nova uses a medium-format Leica camera with classic 4×5 lenses from the 1930s and 1940s to create self-portraits in which her body becomes the painted canvas. Provocative and new, these life-size works are printed on a combination of metal, light boxes and three-dimensional prints.
Nova has received awards from the LA Film Festival and the Big Apple Film Festival, amongst others. Her work has been exhibited at Art Basel Miami Beach as well as galleries in New York.
