UK-based Caterina Lombardi strives to create highly conceptual photographs, with the aim to encourage conversations about difficult ideas, including issues surrounding women’s suffering, climate change and understanding loss.
The Satis series encourages conversation about women’s rights through the use of images inspired by vanitas still-life paintings.
As Lombardi explains: “The series was born from the notion that shock factor may not be the most effective tactic to encourage conversation about women’s rights. I hope my approach would pique the audience’s interest and, in doing so, educate them. In the spirit of this, I felt it appropriate to give the project and each image a Latin title, as Latin is a language used universally throughout academia, which I hope will remove any association to specific cultures.”
