Abhidnya Ghuge

The humble, disposable paper plate is the medium Abhidnya Ghuge employs to create her vast installations. Thousands of plates are printed with designs that have been carved on to woodblocks. These derive from the artist’s Indian heritage and previous training in medicine, and from concerns with themes of belonging, influence, hope and growth.

Unwrapped Saint, Percolated Peace, 2015. Woodblock print on 7883 paper plates, wire, acrylic, fabric. Variable dimensions, 883.9cm x 274.3cm x 274.3cm.
