Political Structures

Monica Bonvicini develops an installation for Berlinische Galerie’s large exhibition hall as part of Berlin Art Week. The show also coincides with her participation in the 15th Istanbul Biennale in Turkey. Working across video, drawing and sculpture, Bonvicini examines the themes of architecture, gender, power and sexuality in connection with social, political and economic fields. Opening on 15 September, this new work, as with much of her previous pieces, comprises gender-specific and power-conscious allusions to the norms of architectural and artistic modernism. Through this, it operates on the boundary between the artwork and its recipients.
