Photofairs: Cutting-Edge Photography

Photofairs is an event dedicated to presenting contemporary fine art photography from artists and galleries from across the globe. After its third edition in Shanghai, the world photography organisation is set to launch their first USA event in January.

San Francisco has been chosen as the second international destination due to its strong photographic legacy. Working with leading galleries from around the world, Photofairs San Francisco exhibits cutting-edge pieces in international photography, bringing together an audience of artists and buyers to highlight the West Coast as a prime location for fine art photography.

The fair will include works by artists whose pieces have never been seen before in the Bay area and will open opportunities in the art market, inviting seasoned and new collectors to purchase from a hand-selected collection that celebrates fresh and relevant material, both regional and international.

The fair provides a platform for galleries from all over the world to exhibit curated and contemporary collections in a fresh and engaging format. Showcasing pieces from new emerging artists, alongside established names, the event allows visitors and collectors to engage with a whole range of different photography styles. The work on sale is separated into three sectors; Main, Platform and Connected.

Whilst the Main sector will present photographic collections by well-established galleries from locations such as the USA, Shanghai, Beijing and Berlin, the Platform sector will spotlight emerging international galleries who have never before exhibited in the USA.

The final sector, guided by New York curator Lindsay Howard, focuses on the fair’s most recent addition of new-media works. First introduced at the 2016 Shanghai fair, Connected showcases emerging and mid-career artists who specialise in digital mediums such as; video, software and web-based artwork. Connected will be accompanied by a programme of interactive events where industry experts will discuss the best methods to collect, display and conserve digital art forms.

Aesthetica Magazine will be distributed onsite, enabling collectors, artists and galleries to pick up a copy and discover the season’s highlights.
