Narrative Symbolism
Echoing the work of Flemish painters such as Vermeer and Brueghel, Ellen Kooi’s carefully constructed images possess a sense of mythical realism. Foregrounding the architecture of the composition, the artist makes use of artificial and natural light in meaningful, often uncanny ways. An exhibition of new work is displayed at Camara Oscura Galeria de Arte, Madrid.
