Last Weekend to Enter the 10th Aesthetica Creative Writing Award

Emerging and established writers and poets are invited to register for the 10th Aesthetica Creative Writing Award before it closes on 31 August. A celebration of excellence in new writing, the Award welcomes submissions in Short Fiction and in Poetry.

Each year, the award attracts thousands of entries from practitioners across the world, and selects 60 for publication in the Aesthetica Creative Writing Annual. Out of this shortlist, there are two winners, one from each category, who are also awarded £500 each plus career-enhancing prizes from Redhammer, The Poetry Society, Granta, Bloodaxe and Vintage.

As the deadline approaches, we look back at last year’s finalist Jasmine Sky Ruff who was selected for her short story Polaroid Venation. Ruff is a writer living in Vancouver. In 2016 she graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in Creative Writing and English Literature. Since writing Polaroid Venation she has found joy in experimenting with voice and form. Her play Blue Carotid was produced at the 2016 Brave New Play Rites Festival. Currently, she is working on a book of short stories.
