ASFF 2016 took place from 3 to 6 November in York, UK, and screened 400 films from 40 countries worldwide to audiences of filmmakers, film fans and industry professionals. Over 200 guests gathered to find out the winners at the closing night Awards Ceremony, and we are delighted to share with readers the Winning Films.

These include the audience’s favourite, the People’s Choice Award Winner Dust and Resin by Stephen Parker. This drama follows the story of 20-something Simone, out of money and options, who pays an un-requested visit to an intimacy-starved pensioner with a plan to make herself some quick, necessary cash.

Enjoy the comedy Rhonna & Donna, the winner of the Northern Film School Award for Best Screenplay, by Daina O.Pusic and delve into the compelling tale of Best Thriller Cork Man by Dawn Han. Other films include Best Music Video Beardyman – Mountainside by Lewis Rose, Victor Claramunt’s Best Fashion Breaking Rules, featuring a group of fresh-faced young students at an all girls boarding school, and the Best Experimental piece Two Signs’ Den: Epilogue by Bruno Decc.

This is also a unique opportunity to watch the Best Documentary and overall Festival Winner Irregulars by Fabio Palmieri. Against the backdrop of a mannequin factory, one refugee encapsulates the global immigration crisis with his own harrowing story.

Explore rhythmic motion with Marlene Millar’s Best Dance Lay Me Low and journey through the outskirts of Mexico City in Callum Hill Best Artists’ Film Solo Damas as the female protagonist tries to reconcile with the past through an unsettling pilgrimage. Other films include Animation Winner Sunit Parekh-Gaihede’s Machine and Best Advertising film Robo-Trumbe by John Wright, showcasing the Nikon D810 Robotics features with former Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt.
