FIAC, Paris

FIAC, Paris

With an interest in the challenges and changes in the art world, FIAC returns for its 40th edition to assess the industry it has been a part of for several decades. Opening on 24 October and running until 27, the fair aims to be creative and responsive while maintaining a spirit of continuity. The participating galleries went through a rigorous selection process in order to maintain high standards, and they also represent a balanced view of modern art, contemporary art and emerging artists.

FIAC is distinctive in that it carries strong European links, 30 percent of the exhibitions are French and 73 percent are from Europe. The fair brings together 184 galleries from 25 countries at the Grand Palais, Paris. This year new countries are represented including Canada, Ireland and the Czech Republic. There is also the reappearance of the Hors les Murs cultural programme, which is a consistently applauded aspect of the fair. This element has been improved this year to offer audiences even more of an enriching experience.

Ouvertures/Openings is FIAC’s renowned calendar of performances. Realised and produced in association with the Louvre Museum, it has been enhanced in 2013 by the inauguration of a new programme: In Process, developed in association with curator Medhi Brit and dedicated to young artists. Performance also extends into artists’ films at the Cinéphémère and the Auditorium du Grand Palais will be re-edited in expanded versions by means of a new collaboration with MK2 Cinemas.

Overall, FIAC brings together an exceptional presentation of exhibitions and artistic events. The specialist programmes and important galleries featured makes for a celebration of the art industry in its entirety.

FIAC, 24-27 October, Grand Palais, Avenue Winston Churchill, 75008 Paris.
