A Fantastic Start: ASFF 2014 Opening Night Launches the Fourth Edition of the Festival

Attendees at the ASFF Opening Night launch party were treated to a special preview selection of the incredible films on offer at this year’s festival. Showcasing the high quality of the programme available over the next few days, the opening night films included Nicolas Novak’s hilarious French comedy, Entretien D’Embauche (Job Interview), Alex Turvey’s stylish film for River Island featuring model collective Justanorm, The Ringer by Chris Shepherd, Robert Hackett’s music video for Public Service Broadcasting and the frozen documentary Zima by Cristina Picchi.

Filling the two bars at City Screen York, guests were able to enjoy river views from the terrace and spent the night socialising and networking in anticipation of the festival ahead. The civic party showed their support for the festival, which brings industry professionals to the city and raises the standard of the arts in the region: the Lord Mayor and Mayoress (Cllr Ian Gillies and Mrs Pat Gillies) were joined by the Sheriff of York and the Sheriff’s Lady (Mr John Kenny and Mrs Jill Kenny).

The evening was an exercise in style with a number of leading figures in the fashion industry attending: Sara Wilson and Jessica Franklin were there representing Jigsaw and fashion filmmaker Kathryn Ferguson also made an appearance, alongside Marits Roberts from British Fashion Council.

Other guests included renowned film journalist Anna Smith, Maggie Ellis from Film London, screenwriter Mark Herman and Chris Black from Film Hub North. All those in attendance also received a VIP bag with a selection of gifts from Hepworth Wakefield, a stunning book from Prestel and more.

The night of film, music and drinks in the gorgeous setting of City Screen York was a fabulous start to the festival and signals great things to come from the next few days!
