Japan Modern: Photography from the Gloria Katz and Willard Huyck Collection at The Freer Gallery of Art and the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, Washingtonhighlights powerful personal and documentary work by 20th century Japanese practitioners in both urban and rural environments.

Capturing the realities of life in post-war Japan, the selection looks to a rapidly changing social and political landscape through evocative imagery.  Featured artists include Daido Moriyama, Hiroshi Hamaya, Ueda Shoji, Ishikawa Noboru and Hayashi Tadahiko.
