Daniele Tamagni: Global Style Battles, London

Italian photographer, Daniele Tamagni, comes to ArtEco to exhibit a collection of works from 2007 to date. Global Style Battles is a diverse selection of images, celebrating music and fashion in a colourful display of photographic skill. Running 24 May until 22 June, the showcase includes pieces like The Flying Cholitas, Playboys of Bacongo, Havana Glam and Afrometal. A street photographer, Tamagni has traveled to places as exotic as Africa and Cuba.

Interested in urban style worldwide, the photographer captures the light, colour and character of the cities he visits. Featuring locations such as Brazzaville, Gaborone, Johannesburg, Dakar, Havana and La Paz, Tamagni uses his work to learn about different cultures. Not only concerned with capturing a place, his recent portfolios are aimed at generating a reflection on the identity of his chosen subjects.

The stunning photographs are a mixture of staged and spontaneous moments. However, all the costumes and clothes are genuine and not styled. Naming Cartier Bresson and Alex Webb as his influences, Tamagni has a background in art history and enjoys freezing the magic of a moment in aesthetically beautiful pictures. With this in mind, the photographer focuses on exploring the street style of subcultures in contemporary society, presenting them in different contexts.
