Anne Collier interrogates popular culture in order to investigate gender stereotypes. The Women Crying series comprises tightly cropped and enlarged images from from mid-to-late 20th century record covers, challenging outdated notions of female identity. A new show at Anton Kern Gallery, New York, brings together a selection of these works, positioning them alongside recent bodies of work which take romance comic books as their starting point.
