It is with great pleasure that we present the Judging Panel for the Aesthetica Creative Writing Award 2015.
Our judges are successful literary professionals who have previously judged numerous writing awards. They are passionate about new and inspiring works that demonstrate creativity and excellence.
Arifa Akbar is literary editor of The Independent and i newspapers. She has worked at The Independent since 2001 as a news reporter and arts correspondent before joining the books desk in 2009. She was a judge for the Orwell Prize for books, 2013, and is currently a judge of the Fiction Uncovered Prize 2014, and the Independent Scholastic New Children’s Prize 2014. Arifa has chaired author interviews at Asia House and the South Asian Literary Festival. Professor Oz Hardwick
Writer, Photographer and Musician
Oz Hardwick is a York-based writer, photographer and musician, who has been published extensively worldwide, and has read everywhere from Glastonbury Festival to Chicago, via countless back rooms of pubs. His fifth poetry collection, The Ringmaster’s Apprentice, will be published this year by Valley Press. A keen collaborator with other artists, Oz has had work performed by classical musicians in UK concert halls, by flamenco musicians in Italian villas, and with experimental sound and film artists in an Australian cinema. By day he is Professor of English and Programme Leader for English and Writing at Leeds Trinity University. In his spare time, Oz is a respected folk music journalist. www.ozhardwick.co.uk
Aesthetica Creative Writing Award
The Aesthetica Creative Writing Award is also judged by a Reading Panel. This includes Rob O’Connor, Creative Writing Tutor at the University of York, Centre for Lifelong Learning; Stephen Toase whose work is published extensively and who has been a judge for Leeds Writers’ Circle, Harrogate Writers’ Circle and York Writers awards; Dr Abi Curtis, Head of Programme for Creative Writing at York St John University; and Naomi Booth, Lecturer in Creative Writing and English Literature at York St John University.
