Sean Henry at Glyndebourne Festival 2013

For his newest work, Sean Henry collaborates with a world-famous Opera House and premieres his new collection this summer at Glyndebourne Opera House in Sussex as part of the  2013 Glyndebourne Summer Festival, which opens in May and runs until August. Represented by Osborne Samuel, Henry carefully chose pieces to work in this unique environment, he exhibits a new larger-than-life size figure entitled The Wanderer and a new figurative group, entitled Two Men.

Integrating the work into the space of the buildings, Henry’s practice engages with both theatre and architecture. Recent works, including several on display here, feature solitary figures in open frame surrounds that dramatically add scale and deepen the concept of narrative within the artwork. Henry also has an interest in the narratives of his figures and a concern with their internal life, these ideas draw strong parallels with theatrical experience. several of the artworks on display at Glyndebourne specifically draw on theatre or opera as part of their inspiration, making the Summer Festival an enriching environment in which to experience Henry’s practice.

The Glyndebourne 2013 Festival programme will feature six operas including new productions of Hippolyte et Aricie, Don Pasquale and Ariadne auf Naxos and revival productions of Falstaff, Billy Budd and the Le Nozze di Figaro.
