The RA Schools: Premiums Interim Projects, London

Premiums Interim Projects is the Royal RA Schools’ annual exhibition. Running until 19 March, the showcase features work from 16 postgraduate students in their second year of study. Located in the galleries in Burlington Gardens, it provides an opportunity for audiences to view new work by emerging artists at the interim point of their postgraduate study at the UK’s first art school.

The needs of each of the students are considered during the application process and the unique three-year course at RA Schools is tailor-made for the individual. This way of working gives the student the space and flexibility to develop work using a broad array of media, under the expert tuition of leading figures in the art world, including Royal Academicians.

Premiums Interim Projects includes a large variety of work, demonstrating the diverse range of students enrolled at the institution. The presented pieces highlight their outstanding ability in everything from oil on canvas inspired by de Chirico to indian ink drawings, abstract wire-sculptures and delicate plaster-casts of ephemeral material, including disposable take-away food trays.

The art included in this showcase explores tactility and texture as the artists incorporate different surfaces and materials. The visitors sense of smell is also engaged by the use of unusual media, such as cloves and incense. In addition, performance art critiques the role of the artist as performer. The following artists will be exhibiting in the show: Caroline Abbotts, Rebecca Ackroyd, Victoria Adam, Matthew Ager, Sofie Alsbo, Hannah Bays, Josie Cockram, Henry Coleman, Adam Collier, Ziggy Grudzinskas, Maria de Lima, Declan Jenkins, Evelyn O’Connor, Laurence Owen, Max Prus, Sean Steadman and Joel Wyllie.
