A celebration of Sheffield’s printmakers will be presented in Printing Sheffield; an exhibition showcasing the vast number of local artists adopting traditional printing techniques to produce striking, contemporary images. By adopting printmaking techniques, these individuals have created their own independent means of production, be it through bold, hand-carved linocuts or finely detailed screen prints of complex digital images. Featuring work by Jonathan Wilkinson, Kid Acne, Theo Simpson, Florence Blanchard, James Green, Phlegm and more, the exhibition will demonstrate the breadth of techniques and diversity of work that these artists have produced.

From fantastical characters to evocative depictions of local vistas, Printing Sheffield will feature work by over 30 of the city’s leading practitioners. Standout works include new silkscreen editions by Kid Acne and graphic screen prints by Joe McDonnell and Emma Shore. Many of the works on show find their inspiration in the city itself, including Jonathan Wilkinson’s depictions of local architectural icons, James Green’s colourful linocut landscapes and Jo Peel’s affectionate celebrations of the buildings that give Sheffield its unique character.

Sheffield is currently gaining a reputation for outstanding contemporary printmaking. There are a huge number of talented artists at work in the city, drawing on the surroundings they find themselves within. Millenium Gallery makes the perfect home for these numerous creations, a lot of which celebrate the heritage and landscape of Sheffield.
