Multiplied Contemporary Editions, Christie’s South Kensington, London

The UK’s only art fair dedicated to contemporary prints and editions opens today at Christie’s South Kensington. Multiplied returns for the fifth year and takes place during Frieze Week, one of the most important periods in the contemporary art calendar. 40 contemporary galleries from around the world will showcase an extensive and eclectic range of prints, photography, digital art, artist books and multiples. In addition, there will be art from a number of important artists, such as Damien Hirst, Gary Hume, William Kentridge, Sarah Lucas, Daido Moriyama, Cornelia Parker, Yinka Shonibare, David Shrigley, Gavin Turk and Rachel Whiteread.

Multiplied also shines a spotlight on talented emerging artists as there will be presentations from leading graduate institutions such as the Slade School of Fine Art, the Royal College of Art and the University of the Arts London. Among this year’s exhibitors, several of which are new to the Fair in 2014, are BEARSPACE, Flowers Gallery, Galerie Alex Daniels – Reflex Amsterdam, Keystone Editions, Marc Quinn, Modern Art Oxford, Parasol Unit Foundation for Contemporary Art, Paul Stolper Gallery, Tristan Barbarà editions and the Whitechapel Gallery.

Audiences can expect to experience a tailored events programme, including artist talks, panel discussions and special projects. A new addition for 2014 is the introduction of Live Printing sessions in association with Rabley Contemporary and CFPR Editions, where artists will make prints and host printmaking demonstrations onsite in front of a live audience. Different aspects of printing will be explored, including traditional printmaking methods as well as the latest in 3D printing techniques.

The fair is also the location for the launch of important new artworks. Yinka Shonibare MBE’s Kaleidoscope playfully explores gender stereotypes and power relations: a kaleidoscope in the shape of a phallus, with the body beautifully decorated in the Dutch wax batik patterns the artist is known for, and the head made of highly polished brass.
