GENERATION: Toby Paterson Exhibition, Kirkcaldy Galleries

GENERATION is an ongoing nationwide series of exhibitions celebrating 25 years of contemporary art in Scotland. Toby Paterson’s show, organised by FCA&C with the Scottish Touring Exhibitions Consortium, is one of the first exhibitions to have opened as part of the project, which sees over 100 artists exhibiting works in more than 60 venues across Scotland throughout 2014.

The exhibition will see Paterson reveal new and existing works, running until 22 June at Kirkcaldy Galleries. As part of GENERATION’s nationwide reach, it will also tour to a variety of locations including: The Gallery, Tweeddale Museum (6th September – 25th October); Gracefield Arts Centre in Dumfries (22nd November – 17th January 2015), and Inverness Museum and Art Gallery (26th July – 23rd August) offering a rare opportunity for audiences in Scotland to experience this internationally renowned artist’s work in venues beyond the central area.

FCA&C have also been working in collaboration with Paterson to inspire and engage groups of young people across Scotland to develop an interest in contemporary visual art, involving them directly in the creation of interpretative material for the exhibition as part of the GENERATION Young Curators’ Project. With additional support from Creative Scotland and Cactus ID, a group of young curators from Fife College have produced a filmed interview to introduce the artist and broaden access to the exhibition.

Other GENERATION exhibitions include Corin Sworn’s show at Inverleith House (until 29 June); GENERATION – SXSW 2014 featuring work by Christine Borland, Graham Fagen and Dalziel + Scullion at The Dick Institute, East Ayrshire (until 16 August), and ARTIST ROOMS: Douglas Gordon, which will see the artist’s work exhibited in the north of Scotland for the first time at Caithness Horizons (until 11 October).

GENERATION runs as part of the Glasgow 2014 Cultural Programme. Full details of GENERATION are available at www.generationartscotland.org and www.nationalgalleries.org.
