Art 13, London

London’s new global art fair, Art13, opens this week, 1 March. With a long list of exhibitors, 70 percent of participating artists will be attending a fair in London for the first time and 50 percent of works will be produced by non-western artists. The first edition of the fair takes place at Olympia Grand Hall and will run until 3 March. Showcasing modern and contemporary art from six continents, the fair acknowledges works from China, India, South Africa, Australia and Brazil. The total number of participating galleries is 128 from 30 countries, representing London’s position as one of the world’s leading contemporary art centres.

In its inaugural year, the event looks East and includes leading galleries from across Asia. Some of the galleries included will be Aye Gallery (Shanghai), Cais Gallery (South Korea), Amelia Johnson Contemporary (Hong Kong) and Volte Gallery (India). The fair will also host a selection of galleries from the UK and Europe, including Deweer Gallery (Belgium)Galleria Fumagalli (Italy), Michael Hoppen (UK) and Kalman Maklary Fine Art (Hungary).

One of the highlights of Art13 is its commitment to photography as they showcase a variety of contemporary works from international artists. Some of the photography shown will come from  Brancolini Grimaldi (London)2902 Gallery (Singapore) and Galerie Paris-Beijing (Paris). The event aims to also cover a variety of art alongside the photographs, including painting, sculpture, prints and multimedia. With prices ranging from £100 to £500,000 Art13 is a great place to discover new artists.

There is also a programme of events running alongside the main fair. These high profile panel discussions consider the role of collecting and the rise of private museums in the globalised art world. The topics of discussion are: The China Moment, The Global Rise of the Private Museum, Saudi Arabia and Contemporary Art: Reaching Out, and Contemporary Photography, Community and the Positive View.

With an excellent programme of galleries and an inspired series of talks Art13 is set to become a huge player in the London art fair scene.
