Erwin Blumenfeld (1897-1969) is recognised as an influential fashion photographer, whose oeuvre demonstrated a belief in image-making as an art form. Innovative and experimental, the works moved beyond documentary to offer new approaches – revealing the hidden nature of each subject.
Consistently pushing both stylistic and technical boundaries whilst capturing the socio-political context of the arts during the interwar period, Blumenfeld transformed perceptions of form and colour.
Erwin Blumenfeld: Imagining Photography opens at Lianzhou Museum of Photography on 1 December. Find out more here.
