Berliner Liste 2016

Berlin has many great cultural things to offer, from museums and architecture to an exciting music scene. Another of these things is Berliner Liste – the city’s largest annual art fair – whose 13th edition will take place from 15-18 September. After 12 successful years, it has become one of the most important and influential events for sharing the work of emerging new talent. Visitors can expect to enjoy a diverse range of contemporary art from photography, sculpture and installation to painting and video.

Staged for the fifth year running at Kraftwerk Berlin, which has over 2,500 square metres of exhibition space, the 2016 fair will showcase pieces from over 100 amateur and professional artists. The industrial venue will unite the art-loving public, independent artists and a network of art galleries, as they come together under the roof of the old power station, to share their creative vision. With the possibility to interact directly with exhibiting practitioners, the event enables visitors to engage with art on both a personal and interactive level.

Berliner Liste will consist of four different sections: Galleries, Artists, Urban Art and Photography. New to the fair this year is the Urban Art section, which will be curated by Berlin based gallerist Guillaume Trotin. The aim of this exhibit is to increase the understanding of socio-economic and cultural changes of the urban art movement and celebrate the freedom of street art. As a revolutionary movement, urban art is no longer contained to outdoor environments through graffiti and murals. Berliner Liste presents the new modern art forms of this movement in exhibitions taking place throughout September this year.

The Photography Section is a hugely successful and well-established component of Berliner Liste and presents the best of the city’s photography alongside the work of international artists. Since the Photo Section was established, thousands of visitors – from gallery owners and amateur photographers to avid collectors – have attended from all over the world. Many great photographs of varied themes and subjects have been exhibited in the past including classic black and white, nudes, landscapes, experimental and conceptual. For the first time, this section is being curated by Stefan Maria Rother, who will collate a selection of images that reflect the ever-growing diversity of techniques used in contemporary photography.
