Art Paris Art Fair 2014, Grand Palais

Art Paris Art Fair opens today at the Grand Palais in a celebration of contemporary and modern art. Running 27 – 30 March, the fair gathers 144 galleries from around 20 countries, offering guests the chance to revel in art that spans sculpture, photography, painting, design and art books. This year, China is the the guest of honour and the fair aims to uncover new art scenes and talents from the area. Young galleries are also highlighted in the Promises section, looking at the emerging art industry across the globe. A variety of strands join together to make a unique art fair, one that seeks to discover new visions of art.

China’s participation in the fair coincides with the 50th anniversary of the recognition by France of the People’s Republic of China. The specialist section highlights the work of different generations of Chinese artists, featuring galleries from Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong as well as a number of Western ones. It is also a chance to explore the continuing relationship between Chinese artists and the French capital. Some of the galleries in attendance from China are: Pékin Fine Art, Beijing, 10 Chancery Lane, Hong Kong and Red bridge Gallery, Shanghai.

In addition to the events surrounding China’s partnership with Art Paris Art Fair there are a number of other activities. The ArtDesign platform develops the relationship between contemporary art and design. This year will be it’s third appearance at the fair and unites 10 cutting edge french and international galleries who present a contemporary design project in a solo exhibition or a group show. The works on display are one-of-a-kind, unique or limited edition pieces made by leading talents, demonstrating that design occupies its own place in the field of contemporary creation.

ArtBooks returns for the second year and celebrates arts books and the artists who create them. This section also looks at those who publish and produce them, highlighting those who work under the authority of the Art et Beaux Livres group from the National Union of Publishing. The event takes the time to consider the important role publishers play in the design process of these beautiful books.
